Some of Our Squad Members
Our team consists of 2 frontend engineers, 2 backend engineers, a QA analyst, a product manager, a product designer, and an engineering manager. Here is an introduction to some of the members of the Verticals Squad.
Name: Tim Saylor
Role: Staff Engineer, Backend
Background:
I am a lifelong tinkerer and maker. Having disassembled more than my share of broken telephones and VCRs as a kid, I began exploring computer programming in high school and continued to develop that interest through a computer science degree at Illinois Institute of Technology. Since then, I have worked for a series of startups applying new technologies in industries like health care, travel, education, and insurance.
What I Do for Fun:
I enjoy woodworking, bicycling, and video games.
Name: Janavi Anand
Role: Sr. Engineer I, Frontend
Background:
I was born and brought up in Chennai, India, where it’s always sunny and I enjoyed being outdoors. I moved to the USA and admired the climate and lifestyle. I’m an Engineer by degree and did a bootcamp to re-enter the software industry and achieve my passion for tech.
What I Do for Fun:
When I am not cheering at my kid’s concert, I love to spend some time with my family and watch the busy New York skyline from a distance.
Name: Piyush Mangla
Role: Sr. QA Analyst
Background:
I was born and raised in India. Came to Canada after completing my bachelors. I developed a keen interest in QA when I started my position as an intern and realized that I always loved tasting food rather than making it. LOL.
What I Do for Fun:
In the summer time I enjoy camping in different provincial parks. Traveling is something I am very fond of and I make sure to take a planned trip yearly.
Name: Stephanie Lona
Role: Product Manager
Background:
Product manager by day, hand embroidery artist by night: I graduated from U of I with a degree in physics before moving to New York City and Brooklyn for 5 years. I had always been interested in development, making websites and blogs throughout middle and high school.
I started my career in tech at an investment bank. Throughout my career I have worked as a developer, support analyst, and now product manager. I’ve worked in various industries, including investment banking, adtech, health tech, and now parking! In each role I learned a lot about new industries, but I also picked up new technologies and frameworks that I’ve been able to carry with me and apply to each new company.
My family is from Chicago and in 2019, right before the pandemic, I found myself back here. I joined SpotHero as a driver that year, and as an employee in 2022!
What I Do for Fun:
I hand embroider art pieces and love to create gifts for friends and family. During the pandemic, I took up roller skating and often skate on Chicago’s lakefront. In my free time I also love Karaoke and watching scary movies!
Name: Orrin Matthews
Role: Sr. Software Engineering Manager
Background:
Hailing from the South, I moved to the midwest for college and eventually settled down in Chicago as software engineer.
My journey started in computational chemistry and biology research and moved through digital marketing, telecommunications, online education, philanthropy, and now helping enable a parking marketplace as the engineering manager of the Verticals Team at SpotHero.
As a manager, it is important to me that the team members that I work with feel supported. That includes feeling safe to share and explore ideas that make our parking products the best for our users.
What I Do for Fun: I read and watch movies, compete in mud runs, and compose and produce original music.
